Contest ends in 10 minutes. Just uploaded my final source + binary to the ludumare user files area. I'm still a bit confused about all this, since the ludumdare site only opened for this contest during the last few hours. At Hammu's site lost all my links in my user info. Hopefully, I'll get counted as a legitimate entry.
Last minute code changes were a bit scary. I was hoping to improve the flow a bit of the cells in the arteries. I typed up documentation, and packaged everything up.
Could have used more time for balancing, improvements and creating more levels. The game only has two levels now, and their basically the same thing.

The deadline is approaching. Once again I feel I failed to manage my time properly. Once again, I'm slapping together the most important elements of the game too late to balance. I think the game is a little bit more playable than the Fireguard game for LD48-1, but not as polished as I was striving for. This was my second LD48. I hope we have another one sooner, so I can continue to learn from my mistakes. I've made a few sacrifices in the game plan to get here. You just have to go over the same artery cell as a infectious cell to turn it to a good cell. Once you have done this to all the infectious cells you win. If you don't navigate to cover them all, then the good ones will be overtaken. When your health drops below 50% you lose the game.

Somehow I managed to take a quick nap. Not the most ideal time. But exhaustion was taking over. I'm too old and out of shape.
05:00PM CST April 18
Spent most of the day, again, trying to get blood cells to flow properly. This code has started to get pretty ugly and hardly maneagable.
06:52AM CST April 18
My quick, one hour nap takes nearly three hours. I'm going to regret this later today...

Going to take a quick, one hour nap. See: (Lack of) Progress Shot.

Still wrestling with proper movement of objects through the arteries. I've decided to simplify the game a bit more. I'm going to forget the idea that the infectious cells clog the arteries. Instead, they simply wander around spreading to good cells. It really doesn't effect the hunt and destroy gameplay at all. If anything, it will make it a bit more difficult to catch up with all the bad cells. This should simplify my implementation greatly.

I have the ship being placed randomly on an artery. Each artery has a designated flow direction which is defined in the map file. The ship is being moved in the direction, but has some issues around the map boundaries and when having to change to an artery moving in a different direction. Earlier I had decided to go away from realism: the arteries will wrap around the world instead of going to/from the heart like the should. The objective will still be to destroy the infectious cells before they spread too far. See progress shot.

I definitely made a good decision to skip the level editor, but I still feel like I am way behind. I have the app skeleton up, loading and displaying the map, but not doing a whole lot more yet. I just finished making and eating dinner, which caused me to lose a few more hours. I don't think I have the same dedication as LD48-1. I plan on staying the course and working through the night now, without daily distractions.

I was thinking I needed to do a level editor. Decided to halt that effort, to concentrate on getting a playable game. I'll just throw together some kind of ASCII map file instead. Hopefully, it won't be too confusing to edit by hand.
12:19PM CST April 17
Nothing but some basic class design completed. Had to help cleaning around the house some more. Now, I should be able to get started. This should actually be called a non-progress log, because so far I have talked about how much I haven't completed.

Spent more time changing up the graphics and creating a more complete mockup. I will upload the web page to the site now and announce
to other ludumdites.

Not sure what happened to the last few hours. Worked on some laundry and other household chores, and worked on an HTML contest page for tracking my progress. I suppose I should have worked on that before the contest. I feel like I was farther along during LD48-1.

I'm happy with the way the mockups are turning out. I think it will work. I originally told myself I wasn't going to do another scrolling map game, but it just happened to turn out that would work out the best for this game.
06:45AM CST April 17
I think I found an idea where I might be able to pull off the graphics. I originally intended on representing blood arteries like real ones, all twisty and such, but it would be difficult to get movement working like this and a way of defining the arteries. I decided to go with perpendicular shaped arteries and smaller twisty ones as decoration.

I woke up and found the coffee was ready thanks to the timer. I decided a normal night of sleep the first night worked for LD48/1, so decided to repeat it. After a full day of work it was necessary. I tossed around several ideas last night, but decided to go with a basic hunt/destroy game, where you control a microscopic ship that must travel arteries and destroy the infectious cells.

I got home from work and saw the contest was Infection. Not my top choices, but more acceptable to me than Sheep. No plans to work on this until tomorrow morning, because I've already had a long week at work.
